Fall Apple Picking in the Northeast

The crisp weather of fall will soon be upon us, and soon your social media will most likely be flooded with photos of your friends and family wearing cozy sweaters and boots, with their hands wrapped around mugs of hot cider, carving pumpkins, on hayrides, and everyone’s favorite…apple picking.New Jersey and the Northeast is lucky enough to have a multitude of apple orchards, but not all of them offer “Pick-your-own”. If you want to pick yours right off the tree, check out the list below with a sampling of the many farms in the Northeast that offer "Pick-your-own" apples.

  1.  Alstede Farms: Apples, apples, and more apples! Located in Chester Township, NJ, Alstede Farms is home to over 50 varieties of pick-your-own apples! In addition to being open for daily apple picking, the farm offers a variety of pick-your-owns, including Strawberries, Blueberries, Pumpkins, and more. Plus, it has some special attractions, a corn maze, pony rides, hayrides, and a bouncy house. The farm does charge an admission fee (which includes a hayride).
  2. Masker Orchards: This family-owned-and-operated orchard is in Warwick, NY and provides the ability to pick apples from 1 of their 10,000 trees from your car starting September 5th through the early November. Admission is FREE, Parking is FREE, Bags are provided FREE, and probably the best part, eat all the apples you want while visiting the orchard -FREE! The store is currently closed, but you can place an order online and pick it up the day you go apple picking.
  3. VonThun Farms: Located in Washington, NJ this farm offers apple and pumpkin picking daily starting mid-September through the end of October. The Apple trees at the farm are dwarf trees that grow close to the ground, which makes picking really easy for kids!Before you leave make sure to stop by their farm market for some of the treats offered like local honey, farm fresh eggs, our signature jams, sauces, salsas, goat milk soaps and lotions,and more.
  4. Solebury Orchards: This farm is in New Hope, PA, nestled in the heart of scenic Bucks County and covers about 80 acres. Solebury Orchards is well known for their high-quality fruit and picturesque country setting. From now through mid-November, pick-your-own apples while enjoying wagon rides through the orchard. A must while visiting, stop by market for fresh, homemade donuts, produce, applesauce, fruit butters, and more!
  5. Duffield’s Farm Market: Located in Sewell, NJ, Duffield’s Farm Market offers pick-your-own apples and pumpkins. Offering hayrides, hot apple cider donuts, a petting zoo and more, this farm will quickly become a family favorite! So, this Fall when you going apple picking, visit an orchard that’s an old family favorite, explore a new one, or maybe even make a day trip out to an "undiscovered'' part of your state or another that is close by.
