Fall Foliage In The Northeast

Fall Foliage in the North Eastern part of the United States is something everyone should have on their bucket list. It is by far one of our favorite times of the year…albeit short, but very sweet! There is something so peaceful and grounding about seeing all of the beautiful colors – especially if you get to see them…at peak…in some of what we consider to be most beautiful places in the country! We have said it before and we will say it again…some of the most beautiful places you will ever visit are right in your backyard! With that, you should start planning NOW because it starts and ends in the blink of an eye! Here is our list of our favorite places to see fall foliage in the North East!

  1. Ramapo Mountain State Forest (New Jersey): This small State Forest boasts big rewards! As locals, we have spent our lives hiking and recreating there. Whether you take a small hike or find a longer loop, you won’t be disappointed in the amazing scenery, well-kept trails, and scenery. You are also super close to the New York City metro area, making it a great way to spend a day trip!
  2. The Adirondack Mountains (Up-State New York): Whether you are hiking in the mountains or staying on one of the beautiful lakes that the Adirondacks has to offer, you will see a spectacular show if you make it there during peak foliage. It is a large area, but it is all beautiful! Wherever you choose to go, you will not be disappointed.
  3. Vermont (The entire state): No matter which town you choose to visit, you cannot go wrong…Vermont has so much to offer! If you’re looking for a little more to do – head up to Burlington. Lake Champlain during the foliage is absolutely stunning. With that, there are always all of the ski areas which have amazing hiking coupled with spectacular views and small ski towns. Like we said, Vermont has it all…you cannot make a mistake!
  4. High Point State Park (New Jersey): With the elevation at High Point Monument, you can see the beautiful scenery of farmlands, foliage, and just gorgeous NJ rolling hills! The blue line of the Delaware River divides NJ from PA. This state park offers amazing hiking trails as well as a ton of other ways to recreate such as camping, and fishing.
  5. The Catskill Mountains (New York): The Catskills are so close to New York City, yet they have so much to offer! Amazing hiking, beautiful bodies of water, cute towns, and the overall feeling that you are in nature. It is a beautiful thing that something so close to the city can provide such wonderful places to recreate and be in nature. Another one of our favorites…even if you just wanted to take a drive and see the colors from the car.

Make sure that you plan your trip today because we are not the only ones who love the fall foliage in these amazing spots! If you need help planning, visit the New York New Jersey Trail Conference website to find an awesome hike in your area!
