Staff Picks: Sleeping Bag Edition

Jim’s Pick: 2020 Mountain Hardware Bozeman 30 Degree F

The new Bozeman fits the bill for me for a three-season bag. As a side sleeper, it gives me a bit more room to turn. It also has a tougher outer layer to hold up to the rigors of hard backpacking and rough terrain. The fill is made of recycled material and compresses smaller than the original Bozeman. There’s plenty of foot room with the ability to unzip the bottom when your feet need a bit more air. It has a good #5 zipper to prevent or eliminate snags, an insulated draft tube, and a stuff sack that converts into a pillowcase making it a cozy sleeping bag. I consider this the best bag at $100.00.

Special note: Bozeman’s can be zipped together to make a double. Only mummy bag I am aware of that can do this.

Theresa’s Pick: Kelty Galactic 30 Degree F

The Kelty Galactic 30, Is my favorite sleeping bag! I love a good rectangle bag because you can unzip it all the way around and use it as a quilt in warmer weather. You can zip two Galactic 30's together and make a cozy double. The Kelty Galactic 30 is the perfect temperature for late summer early fall. The 550 fill down is a super light fluffy insulation. Coming in at 2lbs 10 oz. it's super packable and the temperature makes it very versatile. You can use it in your hammock, for backpacking, family camping or even as just a comfy down blanket for you bed at home. The Galactic comes in regular, long, and even a women's specific fit.

Josh’s Pick: Marmot Trestles Elite Eco 20

By far the Trestles Elite Eco 20-degree bag has been my favorite to use around the time of fall and winter for its comfort, versatility, and unique blend of recycled fibers. Coming in at just under 2.5 lbs, the Trestles Elite Eco is relatively light compared to other synthetic 20-degree bags and offers great comfort. My favorite trips to bring it on are any time I am car camping in the northeast in the fall or winter (depending on where I am). As someone with cold feet while I sleep, nothing has kept my feet warmer or offered such good insulation. A great pick for anyone looking into Fall/Winter camping and wants to have a good night’s sleep!
