It is that point in the summer where if you haven’t taken a weekend away, you are itching to do something other than backyard bar-b-q. Having grown up in northern New Jersey, we have some favorite weekend getaways that we’d love to share with you!
- Indian Lake, New York: Indian Lake is located in up-state New York in the Adirondacks. It has a great little town, but it also has amazing camping. On Indian Lake, you can either charter a boat or bring your own canoes and kayaks and paddle to one of the islands on the lake where you can camp. You have to be mindful of your neighbors (humans and wildlife alike), but what a fun experience! Whether you want to jump off rocks and skip rocks all day or go for day paddles and hikes, it is a great place for the whole family.
- Vermont: We spent countless weekends in different towns throughout Vermont! Each town has something for everyone! Our favorite place to stay was Manchester, VT. In Manchester, you are between 20 and 30 minutes to several of the areas ski areas, such as Bromley Mountain. In the summer, there are great recreational activities on the ski areas from hiking and mountain biking trails to Alpine Slides! Also, Manchester happens to have excellent food options for the whole family as well as outlet shopping and some well preserved historic sites such as Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home. The town is easily walk-able and gives the warm VT feeling!
- Montauk, New York: Once a small fishing village at the very end of Long Island “the end” if you will, Montauk has become quite the destination. There are 5 star restaurants and hotels, amazing seaside camp grounds, beautiful beaches, farms, and endless things to do. You can take a drive to the light house, take a hike in the dunes, take a trip to the wineries in the Hamptons, charter a fishing boat, or learn to surf at the famous Ditch Plains surfing beach. Whatever you decide to do, you won’t be disappointed you made the trip!
- Delaware Water Gap: The Delaware Water Gap has it all. Camping, tubing, hiking, biking…you name it, you can do it! You can make a day trip out of it or stay the weekend. Either way, you will feel like you are away from it all.
- Cape May, New Jersey: Never leave the state and have an amazing weekend! Beautiful beaches, flat bike riding paths, gorgeous scenery (including the Cape May light house)! Being “the end” of New Jersey you can do anything surrounding the ocean: charter a fishing boat, relax on the beach, or simply eat some good seafood. You can’t go wrong!
Escape for the weekend and enjoy the beautiful places we have within a few hours of home!
