Fall is here and we are excited for fleece weather, getting outside for leaf peeping, apple picking and everything pumpkin! The one thing we are NOT excited about is Fall tick season and potential Lyme and other diseases these pest carry.
We have discovered a new product that is sweeping the outdoor industry: Tick Mitt! At Tick Mitt, their mission is to protect YOU and YOUR PETS from ticks and the potential dangers they carry. In addition to doing their best to educate people on tick-borne illnesses and checking yourself after a day outside, they also won the Product of the Year Award from Outdoor Retailer!
How does it work, you ask? It’s SIMPLE! You have an amazing day outside doing something you love and then pat down pets and humans with the mitt! Per the owner, it is a completely non-toxic tick removal company! That is also a huge draw for a lot of our customers and theirs!
Need more bug protection? We’ve got it! One of the most effective ways to protect yourself is by treating your clothing and gear with Permethrin. Whether you’re hiking, camping, paddling, or spending time outdoors, taking this simple step can significantly reduce your risk of tick bites.
In addition to treating your clothes, consider using (EPA)-registered insect repellents on exposed skin. Products containing DEET, picaridin, IR3535, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus (OLE), para-menthane-diol (PMD), or 2-undecanone are all effective options. Other Helpful Tips:
- Wear light colored clothing so insects are visible on your clothing.
- Inspect yourself after potential exposure and have loved ones inspect those hard to see places.
- If you find a tick embedded on your skin. Review best removal techniques as improper removal can lead to the head of the bug staying lodged in your skin.
- Place any potentially exposed clothing in the dryer on high heat for 10 minutes to kill any bugs
Get outside. Stay safe!
