Guided Kayak Tours

with Ramsey Outdoor at the Scenic G. Thomas Donch Nature Preserve

The kayak tour begins with a brief introduction of kayaking, safety talk, and outfitting of your equipment including personal flotation device (PFD). Your guide/instructor will provide you with various paddling techniques from knowledge gained over years of extensive paddling experience. This is a great course for all levels of paddlers and fitness.

From there, your guide will take you on a relaxed group tour of the G. Thomas Donch Nature Preserve Reservoir. The preserve offers a picturesque location with abundant opportunities for wildlife sightings, learning about the ecosystem, and some local history. All necessary paddling equipment is provided.

Tour Time:
Approximately 2hrs including approximately 30 minutes of free paddling time.

Minimum age:
7 (to ride in double kayak with guardian); 12 (to paddle a single kayak)

About G. Thomas Donch Nature Preserve (formerly The Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve)

The Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve is a public nature reserve located mostly within Franklin Lakes, NJ with a tiny portion extending into North Haledon, NJ. The preserve occupies the site of the former Haledon Reservoir. Recreation opportunities at the preserve include canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, hiking, fishing, and bird watching. The preserve, which requires a fishing license, has been listed as ‘one of the 100 best spots for fishing in New Jersey’. Common catches include largemouth bass, black crappie, pickerel, yellow perch, sunfish, giant carp, and catfish.
