5 Things to do Outdoors with Dad this Father’s Day

Jun 17th 2020

Father’s Day is almost here. But what do you do for the man who’s taught you everything you know? Whether he’s helped you to climb your first mountain or catch your first fish, let’s discuss some fun outdoor activities to celebrate Dad’s big day.

  1. Relax on the Water: Enjoy a day out on the water paddling in a canoe, kayak, or SUP with Dad. Don’t have a boat? Don’t worry! We have rentals available at our stores.
  2. Hike a Trail: Pick a park and trail, pack a lunch, and set out on an adventure with Dad. Hacklebarney State Park in Long Valley, NJ offers several hiking trails in the northern portions of the 465-acre park. The freshwater Black River cuts its way through rocky Hacklebarney State Park, cascading around boulders in the hemlock-lined ravine. From the high trails, you can even see several small waterfalls!
  3. Go Fishing: Plan out a day and go to his favorite spot or back to the place where he helped you hook your first catch! If you would rather explore a new fishing spot, try the Round Valley Reservoir in Lebanon, NJ. The reservoir covers over 2,000 acres and is approximately 180 feet deep, making it the deepest lake in New Jersey with a water capacity of 55 billion gallons. There are 19 species of fish inhabiting Round Valley Reservoir, including largemouth and smallmouth bass. Plus, lake trout are abundant and rainbow and brown trout are stocked annually. The reservoir is managed by Division of Fish and Wildlife as a trophy lake and a valid NJ Fishing license is required to fish.
  4. Go to the Shore:Spend a night or the weekend at the Jersey Shore. With so many beautiful beaches to choose from, it will be hard to choose just one! Cape May, NJ is always a favorite. In 1976, the Cape May Historic District was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Cape May has a rich history and an architectural diversity equal to none, pristine beaches, a promenade, and all the other amenities that make any shore town worth a visit.
  5. Plan a Surprise: Throw dad a wildcard with a surprise trip to somewhere you’ve both wanted to travel or a place that is on his Bucket List. Then get ready to make memories that will last a lifetime! Hasn’t Dad been mentioning he wants to climb Mount St. Helens?

If your Dad has a passion for the great outdoors, the list above should help you to make it a Father’s Day he’ll never forget.
