Romantic Outdoor Dates in the Northeast

Feb 8th 2021

Does your better half love to spend time outdoors? Then forget about planning a traditional date like dinner and a movie on Valentine’s Day, especially since this year going out to a restaurant or movie theater is off the table due to Covid-19. So, this year plan a special day or getaway they’re sure to love! Get inspired with a list of our favorite romantic dates for outdoorsy couples below.

  1. Book a Romantic Log Cabin Getaway: Does your significant other love camping, or do they just need to get away from the everyday hustle and bustle? Then go all out and plan a romantic weekend outdoors, complete with a log cabin! You can find log cabin rentals with a wide range of amenities, including some within an hour driving distance or less of ski resorts, while others are extremely secluded. Choose the options that best suit your needs.
  2. Plan the Perfect Hike: Spend the day with your significant other hiking in the Great Outdoors. Pick a trail with great views, like the Butler Reservoir Trail at Apshawa Preserve. This trail has it all…gorgeous views, a reservoir, waterfall, dam, and more! The trailhead is located in West Milford, NJ. Pack a picnic with fruit, sandwiches, and something to drink for an unforgettable day. Be prepared for winter hiking. Snowshoes or extra traction may be required with current trail conditions.
  3. Cross Country Skiing: Go on a cross country ski tour with the one you love. Take advantage of the fresh snow and head on up toHigh Point Cross Country Ski Center where you will find the best groomed cross-country ski and snow shoe areas in NJ. They are one of the only places in the area with equipment rentals on-site. Pack a snack and don’t forget the water for an amazing day.
  4. Snowshoe in a Picturesque Spot: Do you and your better half like to snowshoe? Then pick a trail that is surrounded with stunning views, like one of the thirty-four at the Slide Mountain Wilderness in New Paltz, NY. Slide Mountain, the tallest peak in all the Catskills, inspired poet and naturalist John Burroughs to write; "Here the works of man dwindle, in the heart of the southern Catskills." A plaque commemorating both the man and the mountain graces the face of the summit rock. Pack some snacks and maybe even some sandwiches to eat during a rest, and don’t forget an extra blanket to snuggle up in and enjoy the view. We rent snowshoes at both of our locations. Call for availability or to make your reservation.
  5. Plan a Mountain Getaway at a Ski Resort: There’s always one place that comes to mind when thinking of a romantic mountain weekend…the Poconos in Pennsylvania. Offering everything from skiing to ziplining, as well as ice fishing, hiking, golf, and more. This will be an adventure-filled experience that both of you will never forget! With plenty of resorts to choose from, Skytop Lodge is upscale, with rooms and suites available in the main lodge or choose a streamside cottage for more privacy. Be sure to check the State and resort’s safety protocol for Covid-19 before your trip. Looking for a resort a little closer to home with 4 season amenities? Look no further than Mountain Creek Resort in Vernon, NJ.
Whether it’s Valentine’s Day or just a normal date, ditch the ordinary and create an extraordinary time that the both of you will always remember!
