Memorial Day is here and the unofficial start of summer is upon us!We couldn't be more excited because that means thatwe can get outside and do all the activities we love most.Whether you are a hiker, biker, camper, paddler, or just generally like to be outside, we thought we'd give you our summer of fun safety check list!
- Always wear protective gear:Whether that means sun block, bug spray, a helmet, or long pants, we urge you to be prepared for your activity and promote safety. Remember, this not only protects you, but also teaches your kids the importance of safety!
- Know your surroundings and stick to a plan:Always have a means of communication to the outside world.Let someone know where you're going and stick to your plan just in case something were to happen.Try to have a good sense of where you are and where you want to go and what obstacles you may have along your course. Remember: There isn't always "service" everywhere. There is something to be said for a good old paper map!
- Hope for the best, prepare for the worst:Always pack a first aid kit, some extra food and water (or a water purifier), and any other gear that you see fit in a worst case scenario.
- Travel in numbers: It's always better to have company. We encourage you to be active in numbers!
- Dress for your activity:Wearing flip flops for a long hike can only lead to accidents.Prepare accordingly for whatever activity you choose to do.
- Most importantly:Be safe and have fun!!!!
Happy Memorial Day Weekend!
