If you haven’t noticed already, the amount of mosquitoes and ticks that are already around is certainly alarming. Per an article written by Kendra Pierre-Louis on popsci.com, we learn how we are literally and figuratively going to be eaten alive this summer by mosquitoes and ticks.
She states that “This spring and summer, most of the continental United States (apart from the Pacific Northwest) will experience an uptick in insect numbers. In most regions mosquitoes and ticks will emerge earlier and in greater numbers than usual.” As people who love to be outside, we starting thinking about what YOU can do to avoid not only these pests, but also the general “bugs” that we have flying around!
- Wear protective clothing! If you go on a hike, keep those long pants and long sleeves on. It can be the difference between a bite or not. We also have ExOfficio BugsAway clothing. This line is treated with Insect Shield, giving you invisible odorless protection just by putting on your clothes! It lasts through 70 washes and can protect you.
- Don’t use sweet smelling cologne, perfume, or grooming care products before going outside. This will attract bugs.
- Eat indoors or cover your food if you leave it outdoors. Food will automatically attract bugs.
- Wear more muted toned clothing. Bugs are attracted to brightly colored clothing with bold patterns.
Have fun, and bee safe! Pun intended!
