It’s hard to believe it, but school is right around the corner! You know to pack the basics like pencils, pens, and notebooks, so we want to bring some other “essentials” to your mind and shopping list before this school year starts.
- With so many different types and styles, choosing a backpack is like choosing a good pair of shoes. You want to make sure you select one that is comfortable for all-day carry. Totes and crossbody bags may look cool, but in the long run they are bad for your back when walking around all day. Here are some of our favorites.
- Whether you go to school in the Northeast or the Pacific Northwest, you can never put enough stock into good rain gear that you can use year-round. The North Face Venture 2 Jacket or the Patagonia Torrentshell Jacket both are great pieces for going from season to season. They are packable, waterproof, windproof, and come in a variety of colors.
- A water bottle or tumbler is a must-have! Walking to and from classes is actually a ton of exercise and you will want to stay hydrated. Check out our selection of Yeti and Hydroflask water bottles. Both will keep your hot drinks hot and your cold drinks cold for hours and most sizes can easily fit in the side pocket of your backpack.
- Another necessity for dorm life is a mess kitor a one person table set. They provide you with the essential tools you need to eat and take up minimal space in your room.
- Have your favorite freshly brewed coffee or tea on the go with the GSI Outdoors Commuter Javapress. Compact and perfect for solo adventures around campus or on the trail. The Commuter Javapress’ incredibly clever, sliding inner carafe replaces the rod from classic French Presses for unencumbered drinking and a double wall of insulation. Plus, the spill-resistant top and sealable spout prevents loss of heat keeping your drink hot for hours and it fits in most car cupholders and backpack side pockets.
- Tailgating season is almost here! Make sure you are ready and have a fold-up quad chair. You can use it for extra seating in your dorm room or for a place to relax and hang out during a tailgate.
- Another great staple if you’re going off to college is a cooler. Whether you’re trying to keep your food and beer (only if you’re 21) cold or just getting your lunch to the trailhead, it is always a good thing to have...and doesn’t take up space either! If you’re wanting an easy to bring anywhere cooler, try the Stanley Adventure Series 7 Qt Cooler or the Mountainsmith Cooler Tube Sling. If you’re looking for something a little bigger, then checkout the Coleman 28-Quart Wheeled Cooler.
- Don’t forget theAnti-bacterial
Hand Gel and face
masks. They are a must have!
