Last week we tackled how to shop for dad. This week we want to tackle how to celebrate him! Seeing as though we are outdoors people, we want to spend our time outside. Here are some ideas on how to celebrate dad AND spend time in the great outdoors!
- Have a Bar-B-Q! There is nothing better than grilling up some food and spending time with family…OUTSIDE! If it were us, we would definitely play some yard games too. Maybe some corn hole, Tiki Toss , or even a good old fashioned game of catch!
- Go for a hike! Load up your pack with an awesome picnic and head to the trail. Pick a trail for you and your family that suits all ages and activity levels! We suggest the New York New Jersey Trail Conference Hike Finder web page to find said hike. Hike, have a picnic lunch with your family while taking in the scenery, and head home (don’t forget to carry out anything you carried in) with memories and stories to last a lifetime!
- Go for a family paddle! Whether you own a boat or not, find a place to take out a kayak, canoe or stand up paddle board! This is a great family thing to do as you can take out tandem kayaks or canoes or all go out in singles and explore together! If you are local, Ramsey Outdoor rents kayaks, canoes, and stand up paddle boards at the Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve on the weekends and then 7 days a week starting June 12th! We also rent boats from our stores if you wanted to go to a preferred body of water!
- Go fish! Whether you consider yourself an angler or not, who doesn’t love the rush of feeling a big old fish on the other side of that line! You can visit your nearest outdoor shop, pick up a rod and reel combo set, a few worms or lures then head to a spot to hang out with your family while you wait for a bite of your line!
- Take a ride! Family bike rides are so much fun! Not only are you outdoors, but you are getting exercise, and are able to see more of mother nature in a shorter period of time because you’re riding! Whether you go around your neighborhood or a national park that you live near it’s a great way to spend the day!
Whatever you decide to do on Father’s Day, be safe, have fun, and don’t forget to tell your dad how much you love him!
